Together we can give dogs and cats in Peru a chance to thrive
Our Mission
We focus on spaying and neutering dogs and cats in Peruvian Andes, as we firmly believe that sterilization is the only sustainable way to reduce abandonment and prevent the suffering of thousands of animals.
Our goal is spaying and neutering at least 100 pets each month. (Since 2022)
"Just $25 covers the full cost of a spay/neuter surgery, medicine, and a second chance at life."
What We’ve Accomplished So Far (2025):
🐾 We spayed and neutered 6,289 pets, exceeding our goal.
Annual Spay/Neuter Numbers
2022: 1,378
2023: 1,591
2024: 1,631
2025 1,689 (as of November):
🐾 We found loving homes for 965 pets, fully vaccinated and ready for adoption.
🐾 We are caring for 68 adult dogs, many of whom suffer from severe injuries or illnesses such as distemper.
🐾 38 young pups currently in our foster home, each one ready for adoption and dreaming of a forever family to call their own.
“We can change their world for the better, one wagging tail and gentle purr at a time”

“2025 Grant Partner – Supporting 218 free spay/neuter surgeries in Peru.”
The Jason Heigl Foundation
Thanks to their generosity, we were able to carry out four life-changing sterilization campaigns across the Andean communities of Jauja — Marco (July 19), Huertas (July 26), Huaripampa, and Julcán.
Because of this meaningful support, 218 dogs and cats received a chance at a healthier, safer life, and entire communities benefited from reduced suffering and overpopulation.
From the mountains of Peru to every heart that cares:
Gracias, Jason Heigl Foundation. We are profoundly grateful for your kindness, compassion, and trust in our mission.
Rescue & Rehabilitation
Pichuberry is committed to rescuing animals in urgent need, including those facing abuse, neglect, or abandonment, giving them a true second chance at life.
We provide essential medical care, shelter, and compassionate rehabilitation to help each animal regain health and vitality.
In collaboration with local communities who notify us of animals in distress—whether lost, injured, or abandoned—our team mobilizes rescue efforts, working alongside volunteers who transport the animals to veterinarians for necessary treatment. After stabilizing, animals are placed in foster homes to recover and socialize, preparing them for adoption into loving, permanent homes where they can thrive.
Shelter
In our relentless effort to address the challenge of finding foster homes for stray dogs, we have devised a solution to shelter these vulnerable animals from the relentless rain that characterizes Peru. It is a well-known fact that cold and wet conditions make dogs more susceptible to illnesses such as flu, distemper, and other infections.
Through our initiative, we provide sturdy and weather-resistant dog houses, ensuring that these animals remain safe, dry, and protected. This not only offers them a stable home but also facilitates our volunteers in efficiently providing nourishment and monitoring the ever-growing stray dog population. Consequently, our housing initiative not only acts as a safe haven and a more permanent living arrangement for street dogs but also serves as a catalyst for stimulating the local economy.

Spaying and Neutering
Pichuberry addresses this by organizing and sponsoring neutering campaigns within local villages.
This initiative aims to promote responsible pet ownership and contribute to reducing the population of stray animals in a humane manner.

Foster Homes and Care
Since we don’t have a permanent shelter, each of our volunteers steps up to provide loving, temporary homes for rescued pets. Our foster families offer a safe, comforting space for dogs as they heal, recover from surgeries, or wait for their forever homes.
At Pichuberry, we make sure our fosters have the support they need, supplying food and essentials to help them care for these animals during this important transition. This team effort ensures every dog has the nurturing care and resources they need on their journey to a new, loving home.
Adoption
Pichuberry is dedicated to educating the community about responsible pet ownership and strives to make a positive impact through various initiatives. As part of our efforts, we provide free vaccines, deworming, and spay-neuter services to assist with the adoption process.
Our primary goal is to rescue vulnerable animals and find them loving forever homes where they will receive the care and protection they deserve from responsible owners. To achieve this, Pichuberry ensures that all rescued dogs are made available for adoption.
Once the adoption process is successfully completed, our dedicated volunteers continue their commitment by conducting regular follow-up calls. These calls allow us to assess the pet's well-being in its new home and ensure that it is adjusting comfortably to its new environment.
